'Victim Assistance'
50A-NY-2233091/NXIVM: On October 27, 2020, VS
attended the sentencing for Keith Raniere, the lead
defendant in the NXIVM case. Raniere is the second person to be sentenced thus far, with 4 more defendants
left to be sentenced. 15 victims spoke before the court, some giving pre-recorded video victim impact statements
(VISs). Over 100 VISs were submitted to the court. Raniere was sentenced to 120 years in prison and assessed
$1.75 million in fines. VS
supported the victims in attendance - and others telephonically - and will
continue to provide support throughout the 4 future sentencings in this case.
7B-NY-305254 VS
is continuing to assist the family and minor victim with school enrollment, therapy
and a housing transfer. The second minor victim now 14 years old who is still currently in Egypt is scheduled to
return to New York on November 5th. VS
is working with the Cairo Embassy to facilitate coordination
for his return to his mother who he has not seen in ten years and currently resides in San Antonio. VS
is
coordinating with the VS in San Antonio to ensure appropriate referrals are in place upon his return.
31E-NY-3027571 DOJ is hosting a meeting on November 12th at the Miami Field Office to discuss the OPR
findings from the Investigation regarding the 2007 Jeffrey Epstein case with the victims and their legal
representation. VS
