Charter schools in all states are required to meet state and federal

Done. Going through charter laws for each state I am
finding that all of them so far also require proof of
achievement of the state standards for a hs diploma.
The exemptions in Alaska and Minnesota are mostly
to do with things like the length of the school day and
how they hire their teachers. I haven't finished with
them all yet, so I am hoping there will be some
exceptions, but wanted to keep you in the loop.

Quick run down of states not requiring common core standards for hs
diploma - in short all have standards as
rigorous, if not more so, than the
common core states. In Alaska and
Minnesota charter schools are exempt
from certain laws. I need to find out
what these are to be 100% sure. I should
have asked the common core standards
question sooner - apologies.
Alaska:
• Standards as rigorous as and very
similar to common core standards
• graduation test in reading,
writing and math
• credits in each subject to
graduate
There is this charter school clause that I
need to find out more about: charter
schools are exempt from certain state laws
and polides in order to allow innovation to
take place; their charters must be
approved by both local school boards and
the State Board of Education & Early
Development.
Minnesota:
• Standards worse than Alaska
• achievement of credits measured
in time on scats per subject

• Have to pass GRAD test in
reading, writing and math, although
if math failed courscwork can be
used.
Like Alaska, charter schools are exempt
from some laws, so I need to look into
this further.
Nebraska:
• Standards as rigorous as
common core (and apparently
based on common core)
• achieve credits with time in seats
• no charter school law.
Texas: Urgh. Same things as the others -
lots of specific standards, credits, time on
seats in subjects etc. Again special rules
for charter schools
Virginia: As above - lots of specific standards, credits, subjects etc.
