In Palo Alto for Steve Kosslyn's summit conference yesterday. It was a big success. Not at all academic and what TED could be, but isn't. Steve looks stressed. But isn't he always. Pinker, Gilbert, Kahneman, were among the speakers. Sergey invited me to dinner at his house last night. He's cooking with ideas. Was in Cambridge for a week doing a set of interviews on social computation, i.e. network science and big data. Planning an EDGe Conference in August on the subject a la the Morality conference two years ago. Interested in supporting? Next week it's Turin - the first EDGE event in Italy, Tuesday night, July 10, hosted by Ginevra Elkann, Agnelli's grand-daughter. Craig Venter is speaking. Then stopping in Munich on Wed Jul 11 for the afternoon and the opening of DLD Women, then on to Dublin with Craig where he's getting a big award and being introduced by his nemesis James Watson. Also busy with lawyers/architects and big office move and expansion end of year. Started a new series of "Brockman Essays" - commissioning top people to write a serious essay and paying them enough to give it their best shot. Pinker is the first - his piece "The False Allure of Group Selection" is up and creating controversy, lots of responses. Will try for 10 a year. And, it's a girl!
