From: on behalf of Ben Goertzel Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 11:39 AM To: Jeffrey Epstein Subject: Visiting in November Hi Jeffrey, I hope you'=ve been well ! I'll be in the US in early November for the BICA=conference at MIT (Nov 7-9; I guess Joscha will attend as well)... and pro=ably stay in the US for a little bit after that... I wonder if we c=uld meet up at some point during my US visit -- either in Boston if you t=;11 be there around that time, or in New York, or anywhere else that you p=efer... It would be good to show you some of the stuff we'=ve been up to with OpenCog, if you can spare a couple hours. Lots go=ng on ;) ... (due to the efforts of the team in Hong Kong, plus some of th= guys in Ethiopia...) ... our NLP/reasoning work is advancing quite a bit,=as well as some video game world and robotics stuff... As an =side, our Al hedge fund project looks like it's going to go forward an= we'll probably start trading early next year. We had been=struggling with HK equity data, but shifting to US equities and global fut=res (in the last couple months) has given us much nicer historical predict=on accuracies (largely due to the lower transaction costs on these markets=. Next step is to run backtests on these other markets, and then try=it all on data from 2012-2014, which we have held out as "virgin data=quot; for last-ditch testing... and then if that works, trade real money..=. I have been splitting my time between OpenCog and the =rading project and am sick to death of quantitative finance and eager to s=ift more time to OpenCog; but I would rather ramp down my time on the fina=ce project on a successful note (i.e. after getting a tradable system work=ng), and at the moment it seems to be going in that direction... =div> Thanks, Ben Ben Goertzel,=PhD http://goertzel.o=g chttp://goertzel.org> "In an insane world, the sane man must appear to be insa=e". -- Capt. EFTA00700552 - Goertzel-Arel 'Robot Toddler' AGI Proposal for Epstein Foundation

DOJ-released document from Data Set 9 containing the draft research and development proposal prepared by AI researchers Ben Goertzel and Itamar Arel for the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation. The proposal outlines a $3 million project to develop a 'robotic AGI toddler' — an artificial general intelligence system 'with the rough general intelligence of a human 3-4 year old child, demonstrated via embodiment in virtual world characters and humanoid robots.' Arel was designated as primary investigator, contributing his DeSTIN (Deep SpatioTemporal Inference Network) facial recognition system developed at the University of Tennessee using graduate student labor. Goertzel, who received direct salary from the Epstein Foundation, proposed the project and suggested additional hundreds of thousands in funding for Arel's research assistants. This document is central to understanding Epstein's funding of cutting-edge AI research through academic intermediaries.
