Instead of routing out the wood or using a metal piece for ease of lifting t=e tray table lid, how about installing / epoxy a
rubber nipple, either roun= like photo or 1/4 inch long piece that you could use as a lifting area wit= your thumb? also
rubber would not damage tray table surface while extendin= table.
