FREELOADER NYU has been hosting a conference this week which meant that lunch was being catered for the participants. This meant that after the participants were done eating, the NYU staff could pig out. I hobbled down on my crutches with my colleague, Lisa, in tow. I made her carry my nipper- ware...then I made her fill it with food. This is one of the many perks when you're in an aircast (a boot) and on crutches, you can always pull the fractured-foot card along with a sad puppy-dog face: "...but Fm wearing a boot...are you really going to make me (fill in the blanks)?" SINGLE GAL Instead of the big stove, I bought a microwave with built-in oven and a cooking-plate. It is not some camping cooking-plate. It's a 2-plate, electrical thing with timer and some other high-tech stuff! Hence, any lousy chef can cook on this thing! I'm boiling eggs and stuff! GOD BLESS AMERICANS At NYU AD we love to have meetings. It must be an American thing. The two other Executive Assistants to the CEO and CFO, are Irish. We are on the floor laughing when our bosses request meetings to talk about the meeting they just had! When the NYU President sent out an email saying he had "decidedly mixed emotions about the NYU AD Provost resigning" we could not stop laughing! So dramatic! It must be an American thing. GOD BLESS IKEA IKEA is freaken awesome! You can get anything there! Fm addicted to the IKEA catalogue! Partially because my foot keeps me still and I have nothing better to do than browse the online catalogue. Etisalat (govt owned telecom / cable company with monopoly) is taking its good old time to hook up internet and cable so it's not like I can watch TV... Meanwhile, NYU has provided me with a 3G card so I can hook up to internet anywhere. FRIDAY 12:30 PM I'm sitting in my apartment and I hear the prayer from the mosque on the loudspeaker... No really, it's like +25 C / 77 F during the day. I have the heat at full blast in my car. VISA I finally got my residency visa and labor card! This means I am now a bonafide, European ex-pat, hated and bullied by locals, driven crazy by Indians and Pakistanis, and complaining about everything from too hot and humid to the retardation of this country.
