Hi.. here is some info from the invite letter w=ich came from Mark Mattson, Chief of Neurosciences at Johns
Hopkins, who is=one of the organizers, along with Eric Horvitz, from Microsoft.. :

"The Origins of Pattern Processing workshop will explore t=e evolutionary, neurobiological and societal
foundations of advanced visual=and auditory pattern processing. This will involve short presentations and extended
discussions by experts from discip=ines ranging from neuroscience and evolutionary biology, to psychiatry and a=tificial
intelligence. Specific topics include 1) the evolution and adaptiv= value of pattern processing capabilities; 2) how nerve
cell circuits that process patterns are formed d=ring brain development and modified by experience; 3) the
neurobiological u=derpinnings of advanced pattern processing capabilities such as map-making,=language, art and
mental time travel; 4) the mental fabrication of non-existent entities such as gods and=ghosts to explain poorly
understood natural events; 5) aberrant pattern pro=essing in psychiatric disorders and in potential artificial intelligence;
6= designing computers and robots to mimic or complement the superior pattern processing capabilities of the h=man
brain; and 7) the implications of a better understanding of the brain =80 s pattern processing mechanisms for the future
of computing and the fu=ure of our species. "
There will be a public great debate event also, calle=. Creativity to Madness: Mental Processing in Human and
Machine Brains=/span>
You are welcome to attend and be a participant in bot=, either etc.. Here was the initial invite list.. it has
changed &nb=p;since this one was sent out but it gives you an idea of the breadth of pa=ticipants.... some of these
people can't come, some other names added.. Most have accepted, including Christop= Koch.. we are probably adding
some machine intelligence people..

absolutely. Great.. hope it is vacation at the s=me place! We are going to have an Origins workshop
on&nb=p;Origins of Mental Pattern Processing: Lessons from the Brain with an interesting group of neuroscientists, and
machine intelligence types.. &=bsp;followed by a great debate on Creativity to Madness: Mental Proce=sing in Human
and Machine Brains.=nbsp;
If you two would like to come up for the weekend and s=t in and enjoy the resort and spend some down
time with me, I would really e=joy that, and we would cover all the expenses... if the timing works out. We could even
give you an honorarium if you w=nted to spend more than a few days here relaxing and writing. Anyway t=e event is
March 11-13..
In any case, perhaps I will see you back east before t=en. Thanks for reaching out.

Subject: the dialo=ue
Hi Noam:
I </=pan>
we are working on editing the transcript of the dialo=ue and it should be done in a week
or two.. It seems to be coming along wel=.. it comes in at around 20,000 words.. anyway, am convinced it could be th=
basis of an interesting volume, supplemented by an intro, afterward, and maybe one or two other things.. &n=sp;
