Subject: Re: A simple proposal to start the center, 4 fields and 4 coordinators Eduardo Guendelman wrote: I suggest the fields we should develop, and the corresponding coordinators as, 1. Gravitation, Astrophysics and Cosmology, coordinator Alexander Vilenkin, Tufts University , 2. Dark Matter, coordinator Pierre Sikivie, University of Florida 3. Collider physics and field theory in general, Zvi Bern, UCLA 4. Mathematical physics, including string theory, Thom Curtright and his colleagues, could use Thorns proposal as a basis. Looks OK to me. Except I would suggest Charles Thorne as the mathematical physics/string theory person. Not to overload with U of Florida people, of course, but Charles is extraordinary. Were we to look outside the US, Eric Bergshoeff (U of Groeningen), Lars Brink (Chalmers), Claudio Bunster (Valdivia), Tohru Eguchi (Tokyo), Marc Henneaux (Solvay Institute), Bernard Julia (Ecole Normale), and Paul Townsend (Cambridge) also come to mind. I could easily work with any of the above people, no problems will arise, expect a smooth progress. Same here.
