What began as a forum for American investors to invest in Swedish Life Science Companies has become a truly interna- tional meeting, reflecting the general trend in the industry and our increasingly alined world. tob The Summit has hosted speakersfrom a wide range of countries, discussing public health issues, financial and innovation challenges of pharmaceutical com- panies, healthcare delivery systems and alternative financing for Lifc Sciences Startups, to name a few topics. The aim of SAISS is indeed to deal with the whole value chain, starting with ways to foster in- novation, turning that innovation into a viable busi- ness idea, and finally, reaching commercial success. SAISS serves not only as a think tank for the in- dustry, but as the hutitudonal Innwor pointed out, has put Stockholm on the map as the new business hub for Lifc Science. At the same time, we have wit- nessed the exit of one Swedish pharmaceutical gi- ant, with another one that might soon leave its ori- gins. In this environment, we arc proud to promote small and medium sized companies with cutting edge technologies, hoping that some of them will become the next Astra or Pharmacia. The theme of this year's Summit is the Future of Medicine. Topics will include increasing health span, disease management, healthcare outcomes measurement, adaptive licensing and financing models for the industry. Nobel Laureate Dr. Peter Agre will address transcending the disciplines as a way of enhancing research and Professor Robert Langer will give his view on successfully starting and expanding biotech business, having started nu- merous companies himself. Swedish NEPA Director General Dr. Christina Akcrman will guide us through the Swedish approach to Adaptive Licens- ing — the timely access for patients to new medi- cines still in development. The 2014 Summit will begin at the beautiful Tessin Palace in the old town of Stockholm. In a way, this is like a homecoming for us - 10 years ago we were there for the first Summit, and now we are back, thanks to our generous Host, Stockholm County Governor Ms. Chris Hcister. With brilliant speak. en and our prominent audience, SAISS 2014 will investigate what the future might hold, at the same time celebrating a decade of successful Summits.
