We also live in a dominance and social hierarchy and these are important for the smooth functioning of the psychology. Not only the psychological side but also the physical side, we are imbedded in a structured environment and many factors eg the 24 hour light and dark cycle, are embedded in our bodily rhythms. So we are creatures of our environment and isolation from it, (Unless one is a bear in hibernation and specially adapted) will bring some bodily and mental dysfunction.
