I had a closer look at the panels today and it looks like the current images area type of wall paper themselves. There arc a few scams which don't line up as you can see in the photo. I don't think we want to compromise these, but rather try and mount something over them in case he wants to go back to them one day. I'm not sure how we could mount something without damaging them?
