There are several options for the binding material and color. Could you possibly go through them with JE on the computer and have him pick one? I personally like the "designer cotton" in "ice" which is a white color, or serged cotton in blue. It depends how wide he wants the border, etc.. Also, can you make sure that the size he wants is the smallest, 2'x3'? Lots of questions, and I know he won't answer them over email! I appreciate it!
