DELTA
10.0m Marine Access Craft
Shell's new Marine Access Craft, MAC-1, was recently completed by Delta
Power Services and is capable of 34 knots.
This impressive craft is the first of a new type of daughter craft developed
jointly between Delta, Shell UK Exploration and Production and Boston
Puffords to enable marine access to Shell's award winning new genera-
tion of 'Trident' platforms operating in the UK sector of the Southern North
Sea gas fields. This craft, which is MCA Workboat Cat 2 approved and
has a 10nm Load Line Exemption, facilitates access for technicians to
these Normally Unmanned Installation's which do not feature helicopter
access. Without such a craft these smaller gas and oil reserves, which
these innovative platforms serve, would not be commercially viable with
a conventional platform.
The craft is operated by a crew of three and capable of transporting up to
four technicians in comfort with suspension seating, galley and cooking
facilities. Propulsion is provided by twin 130hp outboards and the craft is
launched from a Standby Ship via a twin Mills launch and recovery sys-
tem. Delta Power Services has nearly two decades of experience in the
design and manufacture of such specialised craft, in particular for the
offshore industry. All of this experience is fed back into the design stage
to ensure craft exceed their design brief providing effective, reliable and
robust fast seaworthy commercial craft of the highest quality. Prerequi-
sites that any commercial operator will be able to identify with and which
ensure that Delta stay at the forefront of Rigid Inflatable and Buoyant
Fendered craft design and production.
