IPI INTERNATIONAL PIACI INSTITUTE October 14, 2017 Dear Leon and Michael, Please find below attached a Concept Note for cooperation between IPI and Central European University. The concept note provides brief details of possible activities in three parts: 1) Strategic Outreach and Facilitation; 2) Research and Academics; and 3) Events. IPI is well-placed to assist CEU begin the process of establishing a presence in Vienna. We could start at the shortest of notice. As I have explained, IPI has a long-standing relationship with the Austrian government. We have organized annual events in Vienna since 1970, and we have long-standing contacts in the Austrian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, and the Executive branch at the highest level. IPI could work quickly to facilitate productive relations between CEU and the Austrian government. If you agree, we could start planning immediately, and we can come back to you with an estimated budget. We could provide at short notice a team with fully-equipped office and meeting space on Herrengasse, just up the street from the Tonkunstler Orchestra and Grafenegg Office and provide full office service for staff from CEU. I am sure you know the area. It is perfectly located. In addition to our offices, there are some spectacular spaces nearby that could be rented for events or other activities on short-notice. IPI Vienna is incorporated in Austria as a Quasi-International Organization (O1O), which gives the same status as an International Organization (1O), except that it does not include diplomatic immunity for staff members. This means that both the organization and its staff are exempt from taxes. Staff from CEU in a transition from Budapest to Vienna could come under this umbrella.
