Once Israel agreed to give the Palestinians the independence they say they want, the Palestinians shifted their complaint to the size of of the state they were being offered. . Myths & Facts: 2012 Palestinians say Israel is doing them no favors by offering a state in the disputed territories because it is asking them to accept a a state in only 22% of Palestine while Israel keeps 78%. This is a very convincing point to show the unfairness of the Palestinians' plight and to suggest Israel's peace overtures are inconsequential; that is, unless you know the history of Palestine and recognize that the truth is exactly the reverse. Hannukah, the Jewish festival of rededication also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day festival beginning on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, falling on December 17 this year. Hannukah is probably one of the best known Jewish holidayi not because of any great religious significance, but because of its proximity to Christmas. Many non-Jews (and even many assimilated Jews) think of this holiday as the Jewish Christmas, adopting many of the Christian customs, such as elaborate gift-giving and decoration. It is ironic that this holiday, which has its roots in a revolution against assimilation and suppression of Jewish religion, has become the most assimilated, secular holiday on the Jewish calendar.
