Netanyahu calls for early parliamentary election in Israel
JERUSALEM, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday he would
dissolve parliament and seek early elections and ordered the dismissal of his Finance and Justice
ministers.
"The prime minister plans to call for parliament's dissolution as soon as possible and to go to the people
and get a clear mandate to lead Israel," a statement from his office said.
Netanyahu, who leads the right-wing Likud party, also said he ordered the dismissal of Finance Minister
Yair Lapid and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who both head centrist parties.
"In past weeks, including the past day, ministers Lapid and Livni have harshly attacked the government
that I head. I will no longer tolerate an opposition inside the goverment," Netanyahu said in the
statement.

JERUSALEM, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Finance Minister Yair
Lapid and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from the Prime

Minister's Office.
"In the last couple of weeks, ministers Lapid and Livni strongly attacked the government under my
leadership. I will not tolerate an opposition within the government and its policy," Netanyahu said,
according to the statement.
In addition, the Prime Minister "will call for the dispersal of the Knesset (parliament) as soon as possible
in order to go to the people and get a clear mandate to lead Israel," the statement read.
Netanyahu is set to give a statement to the press at 8 p.m. local time (1800 GMT) regarding the recent
developments.
Following a meeting which took place on Monday night between Netanyahu and Lapid which sources
defined as "harsh", members of both parties said they will vote in favor of a bill to disperse the Knesset
and hold new elections within three months, two years after the previous elections were held.
Throughout the day, politicians throughout the political spectrum spoke of early elections as a "done
deal," as the coalition parties have been divided over various issues including the 2015 budget, hardline
legislation and the conflict over the holy site of Temple Mount.
