Dear Jeffrey,
Ideally we would just do the poem Woody and I discussed on the plane. He would 1) read or recite the poem "
This is just to say" (I have eaten the plums....etc) . It's very short and so reciting would probably be easy, but
reading is totally fine. Then 2) we'd talk about it for 10-20 minutes, as short or long as he wanted, We have
different views, as we discovered! The final tape would include him, and me (if we had a discussion) and also the
poem itself, probably in our interactive format that will allow annotation and mark up.
If he came here, we'd just have our best video crew come to the house and they'd film him here. The poem is
about a kitchen and has an "icebox" in it, so probably best to have one. Or if he wanted to be filmed in my office
at Harvard or in another site, that would be fine too. We filmed Elena Kagan in the rare ms room of the Law
Library. Our two standard sites at Harvard are my office and the Woodberry Poetry Room in Lamont Library or
the middle of Harvard yard. .
If in New York, we'd do it at his convenience, wherever he liked, I'd have some videographers whom I work
with there come to wherever he stipulated.
