BACK TO ARTICLE INDEX Netanyahu underscores Israeli security control as two-state solution loses steam By Alex TraimanlJNS.org For the second time in a month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed the leader of a major EFTA00685812 Western power that Israel will retain full security control over all of the disputed territories in any future arrangement with Palestinians. Netanyahu reportedly told Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop in a closed-door meeting Sunday that Israel would never give up its military presence in the territories. The statement matches comments Netanyahu made in mid-February during his press conference with President Donald Trump. At the same time, Palestinian pollster Dr. Khalil Shikaki told JNS.org that "the idea of a one-state solution is something that more and more Palestinians are turning to. There is a very strong tendency among Palestinians and Israelis to conclude that the two-state solution is no longer practical." Read more. BACK TO ARTICLE INDEX On the Jewish state's micro-state, an Israeli couple rules a beach for 65 years By Franziska Knupper/JNS.org When shooting the movie Exodus, Paul Newman was a frequent visitor in Achzivland, and Rina Avivi seems to be proud of it. Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Bar Refaeli also apparently got their summer tans in this remote and idyllic bay situated only a stone's throw away from the Lebanese border and Nahariya, Israel's northernmost city. "I met Sophia when I just moved to Achzivland. She taught me how to make real good spaghetti," recalls the 70-year-old Avivi, who starts laughing. It comes as no surprise that the rich and famous gathered on this little stretch of beach to get a glimpse of this controversial place and its inhabitants. Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the green hills of the Galilee, about 9 EFTA00685813 miles north of Acre, lies the empire called Achzivland. It has been more than 60 years since fisherman Eli Avivi founded this micro-state spanning 3.5 acres, limited by the country road on the right and the ocean waves on the left. BACK TO ARTICLE INDEX Facebook apologizes, reinstates Fatah page after shuttering it over glorifying terror (JNS.org) Facebook has reinstated the official page of the Palestinian Fatah political party just one day after initially shuttering it following a rash of posts glorifying terrorism and murder against Israelis. Facebook originally shutdown the page Feb. 27 over a picture of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat holding a rifle that belonged to an Israeli soldier, who was abducted in the 1980s by Palestinian terrorists in Beirut. An image of from the Facebook page of the Palestinian political party Fatah featuring the late Yasser Arafat and current Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. Credit: Facebook. "We received a message that our page violated Facebook's regulations," Munir al-Jaghub, a media officer with Fatah and one of the page's administrators, told AFP after the move by Facebook. However, just a day later Facebook quickly reversed the decision and apologized for shutting down the page. "The page was removed in error and restored as soon as we were able to investigate. We apologize for this mistake. All pages have to abide by our community standards," a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), an organization that monitors Palestinian incitement, said that Facebook reinstated the account without removing any of the terror promoting material EFTA00685814 that is regularly posted by Fatah. According to PMW, Fatah—which is headed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas—published more 130 Facebook posts constituting incitement in 2016. Additionally, the watchdog group said Fatah posts in 2017 have glorified Palestinian arch-terrorist Abu Jihad, who planned attacks that killed 125 Israelis; have promoted dying for "Palestine.: and have endorsed violence in other ways.
