From: on behalf of Ben Goertzel <Milla>1 I Tb:[email protected]> Subject: Q2 research plans; embodied NL disambiguation Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2009 05:45:52 +0000 Attachments:Novamente_Q2_09_research_plan.pdf;EmbodiedDisambiguation.pdf Hi Jeffrey, I'm hammering away at my category theory foundation for cognitive synergy, which is coming along beautifully actually (though making precise math formulations is always slower than I'd like, that's just the nature of the beast...) Also, attached you'll find a document summarizing the work my team *hopes* to be doing during the next 4 months, assuming our funding holds up. Without your help (or some other sort of miracle) we won't be able to do it, due to lack of $$, and we'll have to lay some team members off ... but at the moment we're proceeding with an optimistic frame of mind and are non-bankrupt due to the small Novamente investment I mentioned before. Taking it month by month, basically. One of our goals during this 4 month period is to make some demonstrations of the use of embodied experience for natural language disambiguation (a philosophical point I've often made before, and a pretty obvious one ... that embodied experience is what allows us to disambiguate ambiguous language ... but no one has actually shown this point in action before, and we hope to do it in the next few months at least in some simple cases. See the attached PDF for some examples of what I mean. (Of course Schank would say these are "toy examples" that don't mean anything ... but the reason I think they mean something is because the work is being done within a framework that makes broader, deeper theoretical sense.) Hopefully we'll get a chance to have a slightly longer chat, or a F2F meeting, sometime soon...
