Ever since my time in Brussels I have been preparing and writing sections of a book that I always hoped to publish soon after leaving office. I have spent the last month pulling together the text. There are three reasons why I decided to publish the book now: first, when events are still fresh in my mind I wanted to commit them to paper; second, as Labour elects its new leader I believe that there are lessons from New Labour's story which the party should reflect on; and finally, as I step back from the political frontline now seemed the best time to reflect on my career to date before starting afresh. I wanted you to hear about this from me rather than from the media, hence this email. Do let me know any thoughts or concerns you have.
