Subject: RE: Compensation

I am writing this email as I would like to discuss my future with both of you. This past October was the
completion of my 5th year working for your organization. I have had the benefit of learning a great deal from
you both individually over the years. I am not sure if you are aware but my wife is due with our second child in
December. With the thought of supporting two children my career path has never been so important. I have
attached a compensation analysis which shows that since 2006 (2nd year) my compensation package has
decreased by 12%. This has caused me Ito have concerns about my future. I have outlined a future
compensation taking my 2006 compensation and growing it a 2.25% per annum which includes being
compensated for my additional work for GM. The attached schedule can be summarized as follows:
Increase of annual salary from 215,000 to 250,000
Increase of annual education from 10,000 to 25,000
Total additional cost 50,000 (51,015 with payroll taxes)
I am spending approximately an additional 5 hours per week or 20 hours a month on GM's work. At a billing
rate of $100 per hour I value that at $25,000 per annum. For the amount of work I do it would probably cost
double that from someone else. Currently CPA's or business advisors are charging $175-$250 per hour based on
experience.
In the past I have been approached with other career opportunities and never considered them as I wanted to be
loyal to you both as you went through difficult times. I was always under the impression that as time passed my
career would progress as it did in my first two years. Recently I have been approached with new opportunities
and would like to know where my future stands with you both.
I chose to communicate my feelings via email so that I would give you time to reflect on my thoughts and not
make anyone feel uncomfortable. I would be happy to discuss this today in more detail.
