Would audiophiles go for it? That's HDtracks' prime directive, but I don't think the high-resolution download
store is just for audiophiles.

The Raven: The Bob Katz 15th Anniversary
Remaster (88.2kHz/24bit)
Rebecca Pidgeon
Reflective yet contemporary, Rebecca Pidgeon's lovely voice rings with honest, unpretentious confidence and
vivid tenderness. While her Celtic melodies set the mood, her lyrics tell stories, full, rich, textured and open
hearted. This amazing talent made her U.S. debut with The Raven. The Raven was Chesky Records' most
striking, powerful and fully realized vocal record to date.
Now, this classic audiophile album has been carefully remastered by Bob Katz, the original engineer from the
session. Bob painstakingly built the finest tube playback electronics for his custom Ampex all-tube tape
recorder, hand-picked his favorite analog-to-digital converter and spent hours listening and aligning the original
master to tape in order to extract every nuance of music out of it. We at Chesky Records and HDtracks are
amazed at how good this new version is. This album has stood the test of time and now, with great
improvements in the remastering technology, you can experience it the way we have been listening to it in our
studios.
The new high-resolution master is available exclusively on HDtracks as an 88.2/24 file.

Bob Katz:
What more can I say? If you think you already know this album, you don't! Rebecca's sound is more
alive than it has ever been. You will get to hear all the inner details of the original analog master tape
transferred to state-of-the-art digital. The drum hits on "The Witch" will knock you off your couch!

Britten's Orchestra
Michael Stem I Kansas City Symphony
The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra is a
symphonic tour-de-force and audio spectacular,
featuring all sections of the symphony, separately
and together. Based on a famous theme by Henry
Purcell, Britten writes in essence his "Concerto
for Orchestra," taking the ensemble apart, then
reassembling it in a grand and jubilant finale.
Dynamic range is extreme. Perhaps the most
striking aspect of this new recording is the
exceptional performance by Michael Stem and
the Kansas City Symphony. This new release
was produced by four-time Grammy Award
winner David Frost.

Last year's recording debut of the Kempf Trio
was welcomed with open arms by the critics. In
Gramophone, the young trio's interpretations of
Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky were termed as
"fine new performances which easily match the
best available" and the BBC Music Magazine
reviewer went even further: "Easily the best
interpretations in first-rate sound." Well, now the
trio is back, with producer Jens Braun from the
previous record as a guarantee that the sound will
be as first-rate.

Recorded live at New York City's Town Hall in
1990, The Cure features Keith Jarrett with his
Standards Trio, which, as befitting its stellar
reputation, offers a set comprised of assorted
standards and covers, save the Jarrett-penned title
track. One of the high points is the Oscar Levant
gem, "Blame it on My Youth." These three
players bring so much sympathetic invention to
bear that even an often-heard tune like "Body and
Soul" is given fresh life.
Jazz In Film features 12 tracks of jazz written for
film, from the earliest example of "Man With The
Golden Arm" to "Austin Powers." It also
includes a 7 minute suite from "Bullitt" and a 7

Tribute to the late Dudley Moore featuring his
film scores "30 Is A Dangerous Age," "Cynthia"
and "Bedanled."

continues with Paris / London — Testament, two
highly creative performances of recent vintage —
from Paris's Salle Pleyel on November 26, 2008,

London solo concert in many years and, in the
words of one reviewer, "triggered the sort of
ecstasy that might greet a returning prophet."

Where The Wild Things Are was recorded and

successful "Sound Theories" world tour. Vai is
widely known for both his unprecedented guitar
playing techniques and the unique design of his

A Tribute To A Legend
Les Paul & Friends
Modern Cool
Patricia Bather
EFTA00768679
Les Paul & Friends-A Tribute To A Legend is a
fitting honor to the genre-crossing icon with an
eclectic collection of musicians spanning the
musical spectrum. From the hard hitting thunder
of Joe Bonammassa party rock guitar, to the fluid
almost ethereal guitar groove provided by guitar
icon Slash, this album covers the gamut of guitar
and recording techniques. Solid tributes, most of
which also include the 93-year old Les Paul are
turned in by Johnny Rzeznik covering U2's "All I
Ever Want Is You", Joan Osborne's smoky
rendition of "I Don't Wanna Be With Anybody
But You", and even Richie Sambora's spiritual
vocal on "Great Hall Of Fame."
Thomas Conrad of Downbeat Magazine writes,
"For those who spent so many hours in Patricia
Barber's underground classic Cafe Blue
(Premonition, 1994) and waited four years for its
sequel, the opening track of Modern Cool,
"Touch of Trash," hits with a rush. There is
Michael Arnopol's insidious bass again. There are
Mark Walker's drums, shaking the cadence for
another Barber processional. And there is the
Barber voice again, the near-whisper that can
silence large rooms and turn even stockbrokers
and computer programmers inward."
