If we file IFR on such a long flight, we would be protected from all restricted, MOA, TFR's airspaces, plus Class B and C
airspace's etc.
On short flights it is easy to map that out, but on a 900 mile cross country, its safer for us to file IFR, plus we will be flying at
6000 to 9000 foot altitudes for better fuel burns, and mountain ranges, and a lot more traffic",IFR we will have ATC for traffic
separation,,,,When I take the Heli, I go VFR since we only stay in the air 2+30min at 500 feet only, so we make 5 fuel stops
along the way.
It will be good experience IFR
