From: Ben Goertzel To: Jeffrey Epstein <[email protected]> Subject: Ethiopian Intelligent Teaching Tablet project Date: Wed, 17 Sep 2014 11:24:45 +0000 Attachments: YaNetu_V7.pptx Hi Jeffrey, I'll send you another email about OpenCog and my fall US visit shortly... But this email is about something different... As you're aware, I've been involved with some smart young programmers in Ethiopia, and helped them start an AI software consulting and firm there.... It's called iCog Labs, see http://icog-Iabs.com The reason for this email is that they are aiming to launch a technology project aimed at using AI and tablet software technology to help improve education of children in Ethiopia and East Africa generally -- the YaNetu Intelligent Teaching Tablet. A ppt overviewing the Teaching Tablet project is attached, and more details are available on request... In essence they are initially seeking US$75K to build prototypes of the software and hardware for the Intelligent Teaching Tablet. I believe that with such a prototype complete, it will be feasible for them to raise additional funds to complete the project and roll out the product, both from Ethiopian government and NGO sources and from private investors. They are planning to shortly set this up as a US B-Corp (Benefit Corporation), so that iFwd: Ethiopian Intelligent Teaching Tablet projectnvestors can profit from the project's success, even as the project focuses on using Al and tablet tech to do good for Africa's children... Is there anyone in your circle who would be interested in this sort of investment? If so please let me know, or put us in touch.... Amen Belayneh (one of the Ethiopia team) and Eric Shuss (an LA biz guy) are leading the fundraising effort on this, but I don't mind also being involved with conversations. Not sure if this is within your mandate, but I thought I'd ping you just in case -- it really is a very worthy project... EFTA00700552 - Goertzel-Arel 'Robot Toddler' AGI Proposal for Epstein Foundation

DOJ-released document from Data Set 9 containing the draft research and development proposal prepared by AI researchers Ben Goertzel and Itamar Arel for the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation. The proposal outlines a $3 million project to develop a 'robotic AGI toddler' — an artificial general intelligence system 'with the rough general intelligence of a human 3-4 year old child, demonstrated via embodiment in virtual world characters and humanoid robots.' Arel was designated as primary investigator, contributing his DeSTIN (Deep SpatioTemporal Inference Network) facial recognition system developed at the University of Tennessee using graduate student labor. Goertzel, who received direct salary from the Epstein Foundation, proposed the project and suggested additional hundreds of thousands in funding for Arel's research assistants. This document is central to understanding Epstein's funding of cutting-edge AI research through academic intermediaries.
