It is great that I have an opportunity to start. It is still not clear how much of a back office I would be able to use and whether Vinod would contribute to a fund. I discussed this with Larry — and your help with it would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if Larry informed you I decided against investment in Oscar due to a high valuation and have been looking into a number of various deals. I asked few friends from VC world for a help and they are already showing me their deal flow and various opportunities for co-investments. Zack Brogue (Marissa Mayer's husband) is leading (with a partner Matt Ocko) a Data Collective fund which has very interesting portfolio (including some of great bioinformatics company such as Moleculo (acquired by Illumina). Recently, they incubated another interesting company BlueTalon http://bluetalon.com/ BlueTalon is mostly focused on data security around healthcare applications and is developing secure single-click data collaboration and data unification technology. BlueTalon does for database data what Box or Dropbox do for documents — BlueTalon makes sharing database data across enterprise boundaries very easy, while protecting data privacy and security. BlueTalon might be able to unlocks the massive potential of data collaboration in healthcare (although similar is valid for other data-intensive, privacy-sensitive industries). Few people claim that BlueTalon's flagship cloud-based BlueTalon Virtual Database is the easiest, most flexible, and most secure way for teams, divisions, and companies to collaborate on Big Data projects. EFTA00992441 As this is not an area where I have an expertise, I reached out to few people who are experts (such as Craig Mundie to whom I immediately reached out and talked to) and they liked it (at least from a limited amount of data). The team of BlueTalon is very good and experienced - http://bluetalon.com/team/ Matt and Zack are experienced in this area — and I trust their judgment. They are inviting me to coinvest in A round of a company that they incubated. They are offering the same price as they got in several months ago — 10M post (on 3M money) — with the same term sheet as they go it. The allocation is very small — it seems that I could get 1M max. Although a size of this investment is somewhat small for what I would like to do — and the focus is not in my area of expertise, I was thinking that this might be an easy first investment — it is small, not that capital intense and in a broader healthcare focus of a fund. As my fund is not up and running, would you consider a deal base that could be rolled into a future fund?
