Box 871404 Tempe AZ 85287-1404 Research Office: Assistant (Jessica): - Origins Office Cynthia) Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: From: Patrick Kenney 4 Date: August 1, 2018 at 10:09:41 PM GMT To: Lawrence Krauss Subject: Appeal Dear Lawrence, It is your choice whether you wish to simply state that you are appealing the recommendation or provide a substantive response to inform me and the President of your substantive basis for appealing the recommendation. It is my understanding that prior faculty going through this process have chosen to submit a substantive notice of appeal. I will approve your request for a two week extension to submit the notice of appeal. The appeal must be received by close of business on Friday, August 24, 2018. If a notice of appeal is not received by this deadline, the dismissal will become effective and your employment will conclude as of that day. No further extension request will be entertained. The board policy provides for a conciliation committee to be appointed to meet with the parties. The University Senate does not have a standing conciliation committee. The process that is followed is for each party and the University Senate President to select a faculty member who is a full professor with a record of notable achievements to serve on the Committee. The faculty member selected by the University Senate President serves as the chair of the committee. Once comprised, the Committee will meet individually with each party (attorneys do not participate in these respective meetings) to receive information. The Committee will determine if a joint meeting of the parties would be useful and may schedule that to occur. The Committee does not make factual findings, review evidence or receive testimony from witnesses. Once you have submitted your written notice of appeal, the President will provide you with further information about the conciliation process. EFTA01004515 Pat Patrick .1. Kenney Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Foundation Professor, School of Politics and Global Studies Arizona State University From: Lawrence Krauss Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2018 9:01 AM To: Patrick Kenney < > Cc: Subject: Appeal Patrick: I have two questions. I am obviously going to appeal the determination. Does my notice of appeal to President Crow simply need to say that I am appealing, or does it also need to explain the grounds for my appeal? I believe it is the former, but if it is the latter, I would respectfully request a two-week extension of the deadline (until August 24th), as I am currently on vacation out of the country, and there will be a lot of ground to cover. I also see that ABOR 6-201 entitles me to either conciliation ul mediation. Please explain to me, or can you direct me to someone who can explain to me, the difference between those two things? Thank you for your response. Lawrence Lawrence M. Krauss Professor School of Earth & Space Exploration and Physics Department Arizona State Universit , P.O.
