Dear Prof. Lawrence:
EFTA01014438
While many of the issues you have raised might, in another context, be of central concern to CAFT, in
this case there is an interposed memorandum of agreement you signed with the university. Your issues
are matters of disagreement with the administration over the terms of the agreement. The
interpretation of the agreement is not within the purview of CAFT. Moreover, the agreement explicitly
states that allegations of breaches of the agreement—which it seems is what you are alleging—are
matters to be determined by Arizona law. It seems you and your lawyers must decide how to proceed
with regard to such interpretations. We cannot. Cordially, Foster

Dear Prof Foster:
Thank you for your letter, which I received by email today, regarding my request. I am wondering whether
you, or your assistant, or perhaps the counsel for the Committee, could provide an explanation of what are
the specific roles and purview of the grievance committees? Could you provide a description or a link to a
description of what is within your jurisdiction to consider and what is not? For example, what group would
deal with possible breach of contract issues between the University and faculty members? Is there a group
within the University that reviews or monitors governance issues associated with access by faculty to public
events or university services on campus?
Thanks for your attention to this request.
