Thanks for sharing,
Yes, I've been reading as much as i can find about this accident, Rich as fwd some articles as well.
So many Pilots are button pushers on advanced digital cockpits, leaving the autoPilot engage during an
emergency,
***first rule, FLY THE PLANE, evaluate the issue. If this crew would have selected StabCut out, slow the
airspeed to reduce the loads on the elevator, manually use the trim wheel to pitch the Nose up attitude, maybe
they would have gain better control of the situation.
If your getting tremendous Nose down commands, just like the AD mentions, press the Stabilizer Trim Cutout.
The Boeing 737 fleet has Whats called in slang, "A FLying Tail" which means, you trim the aircraft with the
Horizontal Stabilizer,. As you viewed in the BBJ in palm beach, the large trim wheel by the Capt's Right knee, it
also has a foldout handle to manually trim the plane if you need to disengage the Eletric trim, during a RunAway
trim, same procedure on the B727.
The G550 has a moving Horizontal Stabilizer, However we have Eletric trim tabs on the trailing edge of the
elevators to assist in effort,
Our Stabilizer only moves with Flap input selections, when we select flaps the movement of our Stabilizer is:
-1.5° = 0° Flaps
-2.7° = 10° Flaps
-3.6° = 20° Flaps
-4.6° = 39° Flaps
Just my opinion
Thx
Larry
