I will look at the buzzfeed thing. Didn't realize they edited statement.

As it seemed to me last night, our scooping the university got the right narrative out and things have
seemed to die down. Two questions.
1. Should I talk to her? I sent her the press release yesterday. Dare I say anything? I am tempted to
talk to her and simply play down the retirement and say of course it was sensible thing to do and
now I want to move on.
2. Justin is waiting for word from me saying adios. Do I say it?

Subject: inquiry from a Science magazine reporter
Dear Dr. Krauss,
I'm a reporter with Science in Washington, D.C. I am writing up a brief (140 or so words) item
for our next print issue, about your upcoming retirement.
Between Twitter and Buzzfeed there is a lot about your leaving ASU on the public record.
However, I want to make sure you have the chance to comment to add anything else you wish to
the record. I would welcome an email from you with any additional comments, or the chance to
speak with you by telephone. In either case, I would need to hear from you today before 2 pm
Arizona time. I can be reached at my office at 202-326-8717 or on my cell 703-343-3572.
Thanks for considering this.
Sincerely,

p.s. I should have thought to say that if you want to write something a little longer (e.g. 4-5
sentences), I can also update our on-line piece with that comment, since there unlike the printed
page space is not a constraint. Of course, you can write as much as you want, but I would need to
choose quotes from within that. Let me know if this isn't clear.

Dear Dr. Krauss,
I'm a reporter with Science in Washington, D.C.
I'm in possession of the document with ASU's determination that you violated ASU's code of
conduct in grabbing a woman's breast at a conference in November, 2016 in Australia. I have
also interviewed a witness to this incident, Melanie Thomson, at some length and will be calling
ASU momentarily to ask about the action it is taking as a result of these findings.
EFTA01018856
I am very much hoping to get your comment for my article which will post as soon as this
evening eastern time.
The questions I would like to ask are:
What is your response to this finding? Is it fair? Is it true? Why/Why not?
What is right or wrong in the process of this second investigation of you by ASU?
Has ASU taken any official actions against you in recent days, e.g. to terminate your
employment, end your administrative leave, require sexual harassment training or anything else
that one would typically expect in this kind of situation?
Melanie Thomson who says she witnessed the breast-grabbing incident in November 2016 is
asking for a public apology from you and that you be required to go to sensitivity
training/counselling. How do you respond?
What do you want to add that is not in your 9-page statement posted after the BuzzFeed article
was published in March?
What else do you want me to know?
I'm available by email, or at both numbers below. I would welcome the chance to speak with
you. I will be available until 6 pm Eastern time today.
Sincerely,
Meredith Wadman, BM, BCh

Subject: time-sensitive inquiry
Dear Dr. Krauss,
er
I'm working on deadline on a brief (150-word) item for our next print issue. It will note ASU's
placing you on paid administrative leave earlier this week, and your resignation from the
Bulletin of Atomic Scientists' board.
I would very much like to quote your reaction to ASU's action, and if you would send that by
email or give me a call in that regard I would be grateful.
I would also appreciate:
1. A copy of your resignation letter to the Bulletin's Board
2. A copy directly from you of your statement responding to the BuzzFeed article, and your
confirmation of what date that statement was released.
If you can get back to me today, I would be grateful. I apologize for the short notice. If that's
not possible, can you respond over the weekend or at latest by 10 am Eastern time on Monday?

Thanks for considering these requests.
Sincerely,
Meredith
