They have created a computational model, Forager, that mines their proprietary data from the world's plants and human biology, discovering natural compounds that solve unmet human problems. In a nutshell, they are able to find these compounds, then licence them for manufacture to then be incorporated into everyday foods to enhance people's health, naturally. As you can imagine, they have had a lot of inbound from the major US and European food companies that are always up against regulators and politicians demanding that their foods are healthier/ not so full of sugar/ have more nutrients etc etc. Their model has currently identified one indication, and they are looking to raise a Series A in Q3 '19 (if not before —they have had some pre-emptive inbound) of around $15-20m1n to enable them to explore a second indication. For me, what they are doing is super interesting, although I found the team a bit flat and not particularly inspiring. That may be to do with the fact that they are currently heavily scientist-centric, and will remain so for a while, but still didn't really pick up the energy of a team creating an entirely new market.
