I have been reading your Teaching Minds over the past month and think it is terrific. I left academia (perhaps "left" isn't quite right!) in 2011, and started working with at-risk youth, primarily in alternative education schools, applying insights from cognitive science, as well as develop tools for collecting evidence. I started a company in 2013, Risk-Eraser, and am now working with about 75 schools. I have developed a number of very interesting interventions, as well as novel course material to teach critical thinking. The latter is very much in the spirit of your stories and making it meaningful to them. This couldn't be more important in the world of special education, where most of the teaching is quite dreadful... .and this in MA, which is the best in the country. I would very much like to find a way to talk/meet and discuss overlapping interest and perhaps ways of collaborating. Looking forward to hearing from you.
