We assume. The controller and torque motor are mounted in the tail compartment (Figure 36.12). Operation The control operates on a DC error signal pro- portional to the temperature signals. The sen- sor and anticipator arc part of a bridge circuit which supplies an error voltage analog of tem- perature. When the controller receives a sig- nal from the temperature sensor that the bleed-air temperature is less than 400:10°F the controller sends a voltage signal up to 14 VDC to the torque motor 'via a 45.3 W load re- sistor which reduces the voltage to 10 VDC maximum. This signal will cause the torque motor to supply air pressure to close the fan air modulation valve in order to reduce the cooling effect of the precooler. Bleed-air temperature above 400:10°F sensed by the temperature sensor will cause the con- troller to reduce the output voltage to the torque motor which will cause the fan air mod- ulating valve to open there by increasing the cooling effect of the precooler. No adjustment or maintenance is required. Bench-check pro- cedures are found in Maintenance Manual Chapter/Section 36-8-0. Revision 5 I PRECOOLER TEMPERATURE CONTROL ANTICIPATOR SENSOR Description The precooler temperature control anticipator sensor is a dual sensing element that is in- stalled in the bleed-air manifold just down- stream of the precooler. The anticipator consists of two thermistor (negative coefficient) bead sensing elements mounted in a probe housing. The resistance of each element varies inversely with any change in ambient temperature (Table 36-2). One sensing clement is thermally impeded by being enclosed in an insulated shield assembly. The housing is externally threaded for boss-mount- ing in an air duct and includes an electrical con- nector to facilitate connection to the temperature control system. Operation The thermally impended sensing element and the associated thermally open sensing ele- ment of the anticipator form two arms of a rate-of-change bridge circuit in the tempera- ture control system. The response of the ther- mally impended element to changing temperature lags the response of the thermally open element, and a signal is produced by the bridge circuit proportional to the rate of change in temperature. No adjustment or maintenance is required. Bench-check procedures are found in Main- tenance Manual Chapter/Section 36.10-0. PRECOOLER OUTLET TEMPERATURE SENSOR Description The precooler outlet temperature sensor is a temperature-sensitive thermistor (negative co- efficient element) installed in the bleed-air manifold, just downstream of the precooler. It is physically located in the tail compartment (Figure 36-12). FOR TRAINING PURPOSES ONLY 36-25 I 51 5; ig 71 EFTA01183167 as Figure 36.11.
