August, 2009- Launching our
flagship, Bequia, has made for a
rewarding and exciting summer.
Now that Bequia is on her way,
Brooklin Boat Yard can now pat
themselves on the back for a job well-
done. Our hats go off to the
construction crew for a first rate job,
as they have once again gone over the
top on every detail.
Bequia is cold molded wood
construction of the finest quality
woods—a 2 1/4" thick hull over 31/2"
square ring frames. Her deck is foam
core and plywood over a traditional
fiamework—this allows the passage of
wireways throughout the deck. Both
stainless steel and bronze metals

ful lines leave very little wake.

Brooklin Boat Yard. Shown here beginning the last leg, under mizzen
stays'I, to the finish at the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta.

is very much a modem composite yacht.

the fleet, and certainly nothing shy of

Sailing this boat is a joy. She
effortlessly gains speed and momentum
in complete deliberation while making
her mark. Sailing upwind in 12 kts true,
the helm feels balanced, responsive and
quick with the slightest touch ofweather

helm. The self-tacking staysi and high cut
yankee help to ease the work of short tacking the
boat during racing, and is a nice combo for
cruising. Though we missed having downwind
calls, the mizzen stays' dearly added that extra
push while off the wind, keeping this beauty
moving. The only draw-back, with all of the
powered equipment on board, were the
complaints that the crew had sore thumbs!

apart from the rest
We have not yet had much opportunity this season to bask in the warming rays of celebration of this
newly launched flagship. As we reflect back on the project we are reminded of the dreams that we have
helped to fulfill. It seems fitting to sham with you a recent quote from the yacht's owner.
"I have to add one more comment....Preferred seat: a small cushion on the aft cabin deck house, port or starboard, and a big
cushion against the dorade bat Legs crossed, wine glass chilled, view of the wood work, Vanderbilt would be envious."
Taken fonn a recent communication while cruising, we are certain we have one happy clam!
