The girls showed up, as did mo=t of the faculty,and some of the administrators. Alexa told her story. How she was tutored seven days a week. How Chapin a=ked many times whether Alexa should go to a less demanding school. How sh= was one of the slower kids in class. And how she pushed through all of th= challenges to fall in love with math and physics. She talked about Bowdoin, and the professors that believed in her and ment=red her. About the Phi Beta Kapa. And then about Columbia. Chapin asked her to speak because she will be the first girl from Chapin to=receive an advanced degree in physics. She is breaking new ground. I write this note in part because Alexa received letters from most of the s=xth graders that heard her speak, and they talked about the impact of her =ords. the head of Chapin's lower school also wrote a very touching letter= But more importantly, I write this because Alexa and I know what you did to=allow her to follow her dreams.
