Food and Beverage Costs Food and beverage costs increased $37.6 million, or 128.0%, for Fiscal 2013, primarily due to 29 additional company operating weeks in the current period. Compensation and Benefit Costs Compensation and benefit costs increased $25.7 million, or 121.8%, for Fiscal 2013, primarily due to 29 additional company operating weeks in the current period. As a percentage of total revenue, total compensation and benefit costs decreased from 22.5% during the period from May 24, 2012 to December 30, 2012 to 21.4% during Fiscal 2013. Occupancy and Other Operating Expenses Occupancy and other operating expenses increased $21.2 million, or 137.1%. for Fiscal 2013, primarily due to 29 additional company operating weeks in the current period. As a percentage of total revenue, total occupancy and other operating expenses increased from 16.5% during the period from May 24, 2012 to December 30, 2012 to 16.7% during Fiscal 2013. Marketing and Advertising Costs Marketing and advertising costs increased $3.8 million, or 164.2%, for Fiscal 2013, primarily due to 29 additional company operating weeks in the current period. As a percentage of total revenue, marketing and advertising WAS increased from 2.5% during the period from May 24, 2012 to December 30.2012 to 2.8% during Fiscal 2013. General and Administrative Costs General and administrative costs increased $10.1 million, or 124.0%, for Fiscal 2013. primarily due to 29 additional company operating weeks in the current period. As a percentage of total revenue, general and administrative costs decreased from 8.7% during the period from May 24, 2012 to December 30.2012 to 8.3% during Fiscal 2013. Pre-opening Costs Pm-opening costs increased $3.6 million to $4.8 million for Fiscal 2013, primarily due to five restaurants incurring pre-opening costs during the current period compared to one in the prior period. Loss on Modification of Debt Loss on modification of debt was $6.9 million in Fiscal 2013 due to non-cash charges related to the re-pricing of our First Lien Credit Facility in August 2013.
