SECOND DEGREE MURDER TITLE 14 V.I.C. §921 and 922(b) (2Counts); (3) ASSAULT
IN THE FIRST DEGREE, TITLE 14 V.I.C. §295(1) (2 Counts); (4) UNAUTHORIZED

I, Dwight Griffith being duly sworn, depose and state the following:
1. I am employed as a Police Detective with the Virgin Islands Police Department,
in the Major Crimes Unit, St. Thomas/St. John and Water Island District and I
was assigned to investigate a Double Homicide involving the death of Kenneth
and Jane Young that took place at Unit D-5 in the Crystal Cove Condominiums
on St Thomas USVI on May 2, 2015.
2. On May 4, 2015 at approximately 2:28 p.m., 911 Dispatch received a report of a
Caucasian male down on the apartment floor bleeding and unresponsive at
Crystal Cove Condominiums Unit D-5.

2015 at approximately 2:’15 pm Detective Elesa Francis interviewed
3. On May 4
Ms. Norma Muhammad who is the House Keeper for Unit D-5 and she stated
that she entered the unit to clean it she discovered a Caucasian male in one of
the bathrooms on the floor with blood on his chest. Ms. Muhammad stated that
she initially met the family, the father, the mother, and a son, when they arrived

4. Ms. Muhammed continued stating that she spoke to the family every day and
gave them information on where to eat and how to get around the island. Ms.
Muhammed stated that last time she saw the father was on Friday, May 1, 2015,
when he was walking to the beach. She stated she did not see the mother or the
son. She continued to state that whenever she saw the son, who was later
identified as MIKHAIL YOUNG, he always appeared to be agitated.

2015 at approximately 2:32 pm Officer M. Perez was dispatched to

Crystal Cove Unit D. Officer Perez stated upon arrival contact was made with Mr.
Hilton Andrews the Maintenance Supervisor who advised him that Ms. Norma
Muhammed had reported a water leakage. Mr. Andrews continued that when
entering Unit D Ms. Muhammed went ahead of him and opened the northwestern
bathroom door and she began screaming that there was a dead body in the
bathroom on the floor. Mr. Andrews stated he then checked the Caucasian male
and reported to the office to call 911.
6. That Detective Elesa Francis, Detective Monique Hodge and Detective Nigel
James responded to the Crystal Cove Condominiums Unit D-5. Detective Elesa
Francis indicated that one of the bedroom doors of the apartment was locked and
they got the keys from the Manager Monique Harry. Detective Francis stated that
when they opened the back bedroom she observed water coming from another
room with a closed door which was later confirmed to be the second bathroom.
Detective Francis stated that she observed a smudge of what appeared to be
blood on the door and towels on the floor that also appeared to be b’oody.
7. Detective Francis then made contact with Detective Bernice Farrell of the
Forensic Bureau who opened the door and discovered an unresponsive female
in the tub with a knife in the left side of her chest.
8. The male was identified as Kenneth Young DOB 4/30/42 based on his Drivers
License and US Passport. The female was identified as Jane Nancy Young DOB
8/28/48 based on her US Passport. Their address is 235 Goodman’s Hill Road,
Sudbury, Massachusetts.
9. Investigation revealed that both individuals suffered multiple stabs wounds and
excessive loss of blood, leading to their death. Autopsies are pending.
10. Surveillance video shows that on Saturday May 2, 2015 clearly shows at 11:07
am Mikhail Young entering the front walk way to Unit D. Surveillance then shows
at 11:08 am both Mr. Kenneth Young and Ms. Jane Young entering the same
entrance to the Unit behind of Mikhail. Surveillance video shows at 11:53 am
Mikhail Young leaving the Unit alone heading to the front gate.
11. Investigation further revealed that on Saturday May 2, 2015 approximately 2:51
pm Mikhail Young boarded a US Airways flight 1837 heading to Philadelphia
from Cyril 2. King Airport in St. Thomas Virgin Islands.
12. Detective Mark Thomas made contact with Sgt. Stephanie Howe of Sudbury
Massachusetts Police Department in reference to Mikhail Young. Sgt. Howe
advised Detective Thomas that she had knowledge of Mikhail’s mental problems.
Sgt. Howe also advised that their department in the past has received numerous
calls for assistance due to the repeated disturbances caused by Mikhail.
13. That Lt. Maria Colon-Jones received from the Sudbury Police Department of
Massachusetts a Report dated May 5, 2015 from Detective Wayne Shurling and
Sgt. Stephanie Howe. In Sgt. Howe’s report, there is a statement made by
Mikhail Young to Wanda Miller who is a friend of the family. Ms. Miller stated that
she picked up Mikhail Young from the airport at 1:00 am May 3, 20t5. Mikhail
told Wanda that something went wrong in the Virgin Islands and his parents were
not coming back, he needed help, and he forgot his medication down there.
14. Ms. Wanda Miller also stated that she asked Mikhail Young if he hurt someone
and he responded, yes. Mikhail told Wanda that he hurt someone but he did not
say who.
15. Included Sgt. Howe’s report were photos taken of MikhaiI Young’s hands and
arms which showed recent injuries, including scratches and small cuts.
16. Investigation also revealed that there were no signs of forced entry to the any of
the doors to Young’s Unit and nothing was removed from the apartment.
17. Further review of surveillance video revealed no other person entering or exiting
the Young’s unit between the time Mikhail last exited and Ms. Muhammed
entering when she found the body.
18. Based on the foregoing, the Afuiant believes that there is probable cause to
obtain an arrest warrant for the following:
