SYNOPSIS
This report documents my involvement in a case of burglary. Please see my narrative for details into my investigation.
NARRATIVE
On Monday, August 27th, 2018 at approximately 1822 hours, I Officer Burd was on duty in full uniform displaying my badge of office and
in a fully marked New Mexico State Police unit. I was called to a residence located at 49 Zorro Ranch Road in the City of Stanley,
County of Santa Fe, in the State of New Mexico. I was informed by New Mexico State Police dispatch there was possibly a burglary at
the residence earlier this morning and the manager of the property was reporting the case from out of state.
Upon arrival at the scene, I made contact with a female subject later identified as Mrs. Amber Chavez who is one of the managers of the
Zorro Ranch and residences which are located on it. I also made contact with a Mr. Steve Chavez who is also one of the managers at
the Zorro Ranch. I was advised by Mr. and Mrs. Chavez they live on the property and manage it as the actual owner of the property lives
out of state. Mr. Chavez advised me they regularly check the ranch on a daily basis and everything was normal as of Sunday evening
around 1900 hours. Mr. Chavez advised me 3 separate residences had been broken into over night or possibly early this morning while
they were asleep in a far-off area of the ranch.
Mrs. Chavez stated the first residence she checked on is near the southeast of the ranch, she noticed a large window of the garage had
been broken out. Mr. Chavez stated this was at approximately 1000 hours. The window of the garage faces west, and the door faces
south. Mrs. Chavez then stated she contacted her husband and he arrived at the residence shortly after. Mr. Chavez advised the garage
door was open when he arrived and he immediately noticed a very large gun safe located in the garage was stolen. Mr. Chavez stated
he believed the gun safe to be a Bridger model and contained approximately 30 to 40 guns to his knowledge. Mr. Chavez stated the
guns ranged from handguns, rifles, and antique weapons. Mr. Chavez also stated a weed eater, a leaf blower, and several sets of tools
were also stolen from the garage.

Mrs. Chavez then advised me she checked the residence which is directly north of the garage and noticed several items in the residence
had been moved around. Mrs. Chavez stated she then noticed 2 rifles were taken out of both closets in one of the bedrooms.
Mr. and Mrs. Chavez advised me they noticed a set of tire tracks in a southern direction leading to and from the front of the garage. They
then stated the tracks lead to a dirt road approximately 1 to 2 miles off of the property and this is when they noticed someone had cut the
fence which surrounds the ranch to gain access.
The next residence Mr. and Mrs. Chavez stated was broken into is near the northwest area of the ranch. This residence is a log cabin
which over looks a large valley. Upon entry to the residence I noticed several items had been thrown around and possibly broken. Mr.
and Mrs. Chavez stated they did not think any items were stolen but a large antique stove top was pulled off of its base and was
currently laying on its side broken. Mr. and Mrs. Chavez stated this cabin did not have electricity and could not easily see if anything else
was missing or broken as it was very dark in the cabin at the time of my investigation.
The last residence Mr. and Mrs. Chavez stated was broken into is approximately 200 yards east of the previous cabin. Mr. Chavez
stated the back door of the residence was left unlocked and there were no signs of forced entry into the residence. In the residence Mrs.
Chavez stated several antique lamps were stolen as well as an antique weapon which was showcased in the living room. Mr. Chavez
stated he did not believe the weapon actually functioned as was more of a show piece.
Pictures were taken of all 3 scenes.
I did advise to Mr. and Mrs. Chavez I needed as many serial numbers as possible for all of the stolen firearms, so they could be entered
into NCIC. As of August 30th, 2018, I still have not received any documentation of serial numbers on any of the firearms.
This concludes my initial report of this case if any further information should arise a supplemental report shall follow. Once I receive the
serial numbers for the stolen firearms they shall be documented in a supplemental report and entered into NCIC.
