Human Trafficking Task Force Arrests 3
For Importing Labor From Spain To Work at Their Businesses Against Their Will
DETAILS:
On Tuesday, November 17th, investigators with the Law Enforcement Investigating Human Trafficking
(LEIHT) Task Force executed search warrants at a residence in San Jose, Tapa Ole Restaurant and
Utopik Salon in Saratoga. This investigation started in July 2015 when several victims contacted law
enforcement about being victims of human trafficking. The victims were brought into the United States
from Spain to work for the suspects in their restaurant and hair salon. Pedro Barea-Riva (44 years old
from San Jose), Esther Narbona-Sanchez (44 years old from San Jose) & Paulino O’Farrill (47 years old
from San Jose) were all arrested for human trafficking and booked into the Main Jail.
The task force was able to save 6 victims; 3 human trafficking victims, 3 wage theft victims. All the
victims are adults. The victims were removed from the businesses and offered resource through the
South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking members. The South Bay Coalition to End Human
Trafficking members is a non-governmental agency. The coalition can assist victims with counseling,
housing and assistance with immigration guidance.
The LEIHT Task Force consists of investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office
