II. Cerebral edema (brain weight 1680 grams) V. Mild atherosclerotie cardiovascular disease with 30% stcnosis offight coronary artery OPINION This 37 year old man Jeffrey Scott Lillis, died of aureu: sepsis due to severe bacterial pneumonia. - Per reports. the decedent was an inmate at the Arapahue County jail and had a several day hist ry of fever and severe cough He found unresponsive in his cell; emer enc medical sen es resfinded however he was ironounced dead at the seen fl Autopsy examination revealed a severe lobar pneumonia predominately arrecting his left lung with associated left empyema, Blood and lung tissue bacterial cultures grew aureus; nasal wash for influenza A and was negative for viral antigen Vitreous electrolytes were within expected ranges 'I'oxicoiegrt: analyses of body fluids obtained at time of autopsy revealed the presence urdiphenirydramine and were negative for alcohols drugs urabuse or additional medications. The upper and lower airways are palent and the mucosal surfaces are yellow to red. The right and left lungs weigh 660 and 1230 grams, respectively. The pleural surfaces nfthe right lung are smooth and glistening and ofthe lefi lung are mottled fibrinous adhesions particularly inyolying the lobar fissure The pulmonary ofthe right lung is dark pink to red and the cu! surfaces exude mild amoums nfblocd and frothy fluid; wiihin the upper aspect of the lower lobe ofthe right lung is a circumscribed focus ofdark red consolidation involving 25% of the lobar parenehyma. The parenohyma ofthe lefi lung is red to purple and diffusely hemorrhagic appearing with extensive uniform diffuse consolidation compromising 75% of Lhe parenehyrna ofthe upper lobe and 100% orthe patenohyma orthe lower lobe. within the lower lobe of the Iefr lung is a 2.5 ccmimcter irregular abscess.
