I would like to write to you in support of Edward Rod-Larsen securing a place at NYU. Apologies in advance for reaching out to you in this way in what must be a very busy time for you. The only thing I can offer in defense is that I was the one who offered to reach out to you on behalf of Edward— something his parents were reluctant to ask me to do. Edward applied to study Art History at NYU and is currently waiting for a final decision from the admissions department. Edward is a remarkable young man with a keen interest in the subject and a rich amount of relevant prior knowledge and work experience in the field. I have known Edward's family for many years. Edward's father Terje Rod-Larsen and I have worked together here at the UN and he is a source of wisdom and probity on issues of peace and security in the Middle East. In this he is matched by his wife Mona Juul, who just took up her role as Norway's ambassador to the United Nations in September having served for four years as their ambassador to the United Kingdom. I firmly believe that in addition to his passion for his chosen field of study, Edward will be a valuable addition to the NYU student body, given his diverse international background and his belief in the power of art and culture to bring people together. He is someone who would like to make a difference in his chosen field of study and develop deep expertise through the challenging and rigorous academic environment offered by NYU and its faculty. I know this is a busy time, but I would be deeply grateful for your consideration of a young man who I believe has a very bright future ahead of him.
