Sorry for the delayed response, very hectic day at school.
My question is the following: Why is it socially acceptable to be a transgender and not
a transracial individual? In other words, if I woke up tomorrow and claimed I am a
woman living in a man's body, I would be accepted for that. In fact, I would be heralded
to a degree, dubbed as being brave for coming out. However, if tomorrow morning, I
came out and claimed I was a black man living in a white man's body, I would not be
accepted and in fact would receive immense backlash, especially from the black
community. (ie. Rachel Dolezal) So my question is, why is that the case? In my opinion
race and gender are both forms of identity rooted in biology, so in that way are very
similar.
