Course Description: This c=urse examines major scoping requirements found in the 2010 ADA and the 201= CBC.
The session starts with a discussion of what you need to know about the 2010 ADA and the relationship to the
requirements in Cha=ters 11A, 116 and 11C of the CBC. Next, an overview of key scoping require=ents pertaining to new

buildings will be provided. The focus will be on oc=upancy-specific features needed in assembly, business, mercantile,
retail, and transient lodging spaces. F=nally, accessibility for existing buildings will be explored in the contex= of upgrade
triggers and key exceptions that can have a major impact on de=ign scope. This course will include interactive learning
activities, and mini-case studies as an integral part=of the morning and afternoon sessions.
Instructor: Nate Wittasek, PE, LEED AP, Arup <http://www.arup.com> - Nate=Wittasek of ARUP has engaged in
accessibility codes consulting for over a =ecade. Using a foundation based on his in-depth understanding of fire and =ife
safety requirements from the building code, Nate has sought to develop a holistic approach to codes con=ulting,
wherein themes associated with life safety and accessibility are i=terwoven. Combining real-life examples and graphical
depictions to enhance=understanding, Nate brings over 15 years of current practical experience to the classroom. Nate
is an inst=uctor at the UCLA Extension, and an adjunct at the College of Environmenta= Design at Cal Poly Pomona,
where he has taught accessibility for over fiv= years.
