Jeffrey,
I would like your thoughts on Espalier Fruit Trees.
If you are not familiar, espalier is European method and style of pruning and training trees, but
especially fruit trees, to grow in only 2 dimensions. The trees are visually flat and are typically
planted against a wall but can also be freestanding, whereby they become a fence or an arbor or any
other volumetric shape. They are not difficult to maintain once trained and bear more fruit than a
standard fruit tree.
I would like to pursue the concept of an espalier fruit orchard using Barragan like walls, tall and
colorful, with the geometric shapes of the espalier fruit trees growing against them.
If you like this idea as a possibility, I would like to incorporate it into a bigger concept I have for the
areas above and around Pop's Garden and the Nursery.
Let me know what you think.
Silvina
