FYI, nothing happens fast over at Templeton, but the positioning is very good for matching after
we get clarity on the projects...
Spent parts of yesterday wth Joi - there is a big danger of "more of the same" over at the lab.
There is a lot of "show" but I think that this is a mask and a lot of the of the areas are actually
sleepy.
Perhaps a society of fellows model between Martin and Joi might work. The focus could be post-
does and visiting genius-level persons offered as I-year "prize fellows", which could be renwable
for another year. Neither Joi or Martin want it, but there should be an external selection board to
ensure absolute excellence in the appointments. I have structures off the shelf where I could be on
such a board (with a veto for anyone who does not fit), and you might consider the same. But this
has to be treated with real care because academics don't like others to share decisions (I've made
it work in the past, at Chicago and elsewhere; it just requires good trust and the ability to apply
pressure when and where neede)
I'm out west all next week.
