A think tank located somewhere nice.. maybe here, maybe on the coast.. but have only 1-3 permanent people, and have it host 15 ish of the major people in a field to come for a term to meet, along with their students, and focus on a topic.. 2 such sessions per year.. it could be amazing. I figure costs would be something like 5500K director (if full time.. if it were here and I were director it might work half time). 5100K/researcher for 4 mo stipend x 15 =$1.5 million x 2 sessions/yr = $3M $20K stipend for 20 postdocs and grad students apiece.. =5400K Housing.. $2k/mo x 30 (students and postdocs share) x 8 mos =$480 administrative staff.. $250K/yr.. total $4.6 Million or so.. rental of space, or build it (along with housing) if rental, 5300K/yr should cover it. advisory board.. some expenses $100K LMK It is grand, but this way one would find out empirically what topics work.. and it would be run by people who know what is interesting... we could pay the organizer of eah session an additional stipend of $40K to organize it and get others or something.. anyway.. daydreaming.
