Amongst his other responsibilities, I asked Boris to identify early-stage companies doing breakthrough work in life sciences and technology and to assess investment opportunities into those companies. Boris has a real talent for finding and working with these companies; however, our priorities don't allow Boris to devote much of his time to helping these innovative companies. As such, we have been discussing the unfortunate possibility of his eventual transition to the for- profit world. Over the past 6 years with the Foundation and the last 3 of those working directly with me, Boris made a very significant contributions to our success. Boris ranks among the smartest and hardest working people I have bad the experience to work with. He has deep technical expertise within multiple areas, solid judgment and is able to reach out and build relationships with a large and diverse group of people. Although I am sad to see him go, he does so with my full support and continued friendship. Boris has graciously agreed to continue working on projects with us all through the end of the year to ensure a successful transition.
