Subject: Help with funding due to sequester-related cuts
To: [email protected]
Dear Mr. Epstein,
I am a native New Yorker Columbia researcher with an appointment in Pathology who works in the new area of
Phenomics as it applies to Lymphoma. I want to use this Translational Bioinformatic approach (LYMPS v.1.0)
to identify new drug targets for DLBCL the deadliest subtype of non-hodgkins lymphoma. I am publishing a
manuscript on my method at this time and I have a collaboration with the Lymphoma group at Cornell to use
their data for the next version (LYMPS v.2.0). I have been associated for the past several years with Joint
Center for Systems Biology at the Cancer Center Building until I got my appointment in Pathology and have
been funded by the CTSA at Columbia as well.
The problem is that the Sequester resulted in my salary and benefits being cut in late April. I formulated a plan
to get funding in association with the CIJMC Cancer Center, but I recently found out that my plan can't work
until that grant is renewed in the Spring 2014.
I don't know howl will get funds to live on during this period. I don't want to take another job and dump all I've
worked for if I can help it.
I am asking for help to get support for at least the months till my plan works itself out.
I know its a long shot, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Thanks.
Jose
