Jeffrey, it is a pleasure to "meet" you. I'm out of the office at the moment but promise to follow up more in the coming days. By way of background, I was part of a small group of YGLs who attempted to spearhead a YGL task force on alternative currencies and the "future of finance" from a more localized, community- and reputation- driven perspective. Although we were partially successful in mobilizing interest as a group, I am personally very committed to learning and sharing more about alternative currencies writ large. This dovetails with my career-long exposure to/focus on social capital and, more broadly, enterprises and initiatives that harness it for collective good. I have worked with some alternative currency experts in the past, and I am confident that Jem will have more to share along these lines as well. Anything I can do to further a convening along the lines below, count me in. We have been going back and forth about how to have a small convening with the YGL best and brightest around alternative currencies and the future of money. I'd like to introduce you to Jeffrey Epstein, whose philanthropic interest overlap in this area. Here is a website with some of his recent grants and projects: http://www.ieffrevepstein.orehome.html Jeffrey has offered to provide the resources, in the form of a grant, to a 501c3 or charitable equivalent organization that might host a convening related to this topic. He has proposed several venues which could host up to 10 or so of the foremost thinkers in this space.
