Postcards are used as a tool to discuss art and for the interviewer to get a feel for the applicant's background and general knowledge. By no means are applicants expected to know every artist and date, though interviewers will assess familiarity with major themes, will expect flexibility in considering alternative methods to analyzing the objects and will request a compare-and- contrast essay, to be taken during the interview, to evaluate writing style.
