Subject: B407 update Jeffrey, small amount of corrosion was found on drive shaft that couples the Transmission to Engine,. this piece has very little tolerance for surface corrosion,. Bell has on upgraded stronger Mod for this drive shalt $45,000.00 which is complete replacement of the drive shaft,. I spoke to Bell tech support and Dave Burch the manager at Edwards maintenance facility, most operators continue to repair their own drive shaft due to the cost of this upgrade from Bell,. If you agree, I told Dave to remove our shaft and send for repair. estimate cost is $3,850.00 only, however the down time is 45 days, I told them to proceed, and expedite is this approved? (Ghislaine, I will schedule our Bell 407 training in N491GM once the helicopter is completed, and return to service). I told Edwards to have the Bell 407 completed by April 1st since the Annual inspection for S76 is due at that time,.
